YESHIVAT HESDER KARNEI SHOMRON

The Yeshiva front
The Yeshiva front

A five-year program combining Jewish studies with active military service in the Israel Defense Forces.

Our students are graduates of Yeshiva high schools from all over Israel, from all socio-economic levels and from both Ashkenazi and Sefardi homes. Enrollment is over three hundred students.

The curriculum combines thorough study of the Talmud and the commentaries with applications to the developments of modern society on the basis of Jewish law and tradition.

Our Aims
To prepare future leaders of Israel who have a love for Torah and a sense of responsibility to the Jewish people in Israel and abroad, to create the next generation- Zionist rabbis and educators as well as people in scores of professions and occupations who can be a bridge between different sectors of the population, and who are full participants in the day-to-day life of Israel. Graduates are encouraged to continue their higher Torah studies while at universities or technological institutions, and to join pioneer setllements or to volunteer for service in the permanent army.

Graduate Department (Kollel)
For continuing Jewish studies after completion of Hesder program (after active military service). Students study to become rabbis and dayanim (judges in religious courts).

Teachers College Department
For senior student and graduates, offers courses leading to a teaching certificate in Jewish studies on the high school level as well as B. Ed degree programs.

Educational Resource Center – Pisgah – has been built on the campus and serves as a regional center for staff development in the region as well as for offices of our Teachers College.

SERVING ISRAEL WITH DEDICATION
Active service in the Israel Defense Forces during the course of study at Yeshivat Hesder Karnei Shomron is an integral part of the educational program. Our rabbis and students serve in elite combatunits of the I.D.F. in the famed Golani and Givati brigades, some as officers. They also carry security and educational responsibilities in Karnei Shomron, forming a first line of defense and emergency assistance in addition to providing Torah instruction for both children and adults.

Volunteer activities are encouraged and students visit patients in old age homes and hospitals and assist new immigrants. Our students regularly give blood; Magen David Adom comes several times a year so that students can give blood here on the campus. A number of our students have qualified as ambulance drivers and a significant number participate in the "Kitat Konenut" – First Response program for emergencies in Karnei Shomron.

Books in Print
The Yeshiva recently published a set of Machzorim for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur with the aim of presenting a "user friendly" Machzor for the general public. Many copies were distributed to soldiers on active duty at the High Holydays and copies were used by mixed secular-religious High Holyday congregations. A new edition is planned for next year.

Rav Shmuel Haber, Rosh Hayeshiva, has published a two-volume set called "Et Tznuim Chochmah", which has been very well received.
